MIKE DOUGHTY to release 'Sad Man Happy Man' on Tuesday, October 6th

When Mike Doughty released his second official solo album, 2008's Golden Delicious, the reaction from fans was intense. "Some hated it, some loved it better than Soul Coughing," Doughty says. "I tend to take sharp left turns. Every time I put out a record, the audience seems to like what I did two years ago better. You'd think I could shrug it off because that's what always happens, but it always gets to me."

Doughty admits that his upcoming album, Sad Man Happy Man - released Tuesday on ATO Records - is a reaction to his fans' reaction and that he's giving the people what they want. "I really went for the na-na-na's' and the simple choruses and stuff on Golden," he says. "The songs on Sad Man are more arcane and convoluted songwriting-wise, though they're sparer in terms of instrumentation. Although my choruses are still simple - I love taking phrases and repeating them ad infinitum." More Information

Although my choruses are still simple - I love taking phrases and repeating them ad infinitum."

The largely acoustic Sad Man Happy Man is a deliberate return to everything people love about Mike Doughty, he makes albums that simmer with verbal wit, and Sad Man Happy Man is no exception with its songs about everything from relationship bust-ups (Doughty was going through one while he was recording it) to his astute observations about the American economy.

Musically, Sad Man Happy Man finds Doughty returning to his acoustic roots thanks to its stripped-down arrangements that feature Doughty backing himself on guitar. He also did all the drum programming, as well as played keyboards and what he calls the "weird noise stuff," while his long-time touring partner Andrew "Scrap" Livingston handles bass duties. Recorded at New York's Kampo Studios, the album was co-produced by Doughty and engineer Pat Dillett (They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Arto Lindsay), with the exception of albumĀ¹s first single "Doubly Gratified," which was produced by David Kahne, who helmed Soul Coughing's 1996 album Irresistible Bliss, as
well as albums by Paul McCartney, Sugar Ray, and Tony Bennett.

Doughty maintains a widely read blog (mikedoughty.com/blog) that chronicles his unique shows, international travels, and creative endeavors. He's currently writing a memoir, recording an electronic album entitled Dubious Luxury, and working on a photo book about Eritrea's capital city of Asmara, for Yeti Books. He also recently published a play, Ray Slape is Dead, in 24 by 24: The 24 Hour Plays Anthology, alongside Terrence McNally and Theresa
Rebeck.

But for now, Doughty is looking forward to a fall '09 "Question Jar" tour with his friend Scrap and releasing Sad Man Happy Man. "Basically I'm trying to make stuff I want to listen to," he says of the album. "And I mean that in a literal sense, not like, "Were I a listener, I would like this," but rather something I can listen to on the subway on headphones and really dig. This is my life, this is what I do. That sounds matter-of-fact, but I really do look at it as a sort of calling - and being an artist at its best is selfless. I'm working for the language, I'm working for the music, I'm working for the songs. I'm a happier guy when I'm conscious of that."

BEATLES Digitally Re-mastered Catalogue Available Tomorrow 9/9/09

Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released. More InformationApple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilizing state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.

The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and 'Magical Mystery Tour,' which became part of The Beatles' core catalogue when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections 'Past Masters Vol. I and II' are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. This will mark the first time that the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set.

Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.

A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. 'The Beatles in Mono' gathers together, in one place, all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on 'Past Masters'). As an added bonus, the mono "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.

The stereo albums have been remastered by Guy Massey, Steve Rooke, Sam Okell with Paul Hicks and Sean Magee

Re-mastering the Beatles catalogue
The re-mastering process commenced with an extensive period conducting tests before finally copying the analogue master tapes into the digital medium. When this was completed, the transfer was achieved using a Pro Tools workstation operating at 24 bit 192 kHz resolution via a Prism A-D converter. Transferring was a lengthy procedure done a track at a time. Although EMI tape does not suffer the oxide loss associated with some later analogue tapes, there was nevertheless a slight build up of dust, which was removed from the tape machine heads between each title.

From the onset, considerable thought was given to what audio restorative processes were going to be allowed. It was agreed that electrical clicks, microphone vocal pops, excessive sibilance and bad edits should be improved where possible, so long as it didn't impact on the original integrity of the songs.

In addition, de-noising technology, which is often associated with re-mastering, was to be used, but subtly and sparingly. Eventually, less than five of the 525 minutes of Beatles music was subjected to this process. Finally, as is common with today's music, overall limiting - to increase the volume level of the CD - has been used, but on the stereo versions only. However, it was unanimously agreed that because of the importance of The Beatles' music, limiting would be used moderately, so as to retain the original dynamics of the recordings.

When all of the albums had been transferred, each song was then listened to several times to locate any of the agreed imperfections. These were then addressed by Guy Massey, working with Audio Restoration engineer Simon Gibson.

Mastering could now take place, once the earliest vinyl pressings, along with the existing CDs, were loaded into Pro Tools, thus allowing comparisons to be made with the original master tapes during the equalization process. When an album had been completed, it was auditioned the next day in studio three - a room familiar to the engineers, as all of the recent Beatles mixing projects had taken place in there - and any further alteration of EQ could be addressed back in the mastering room. Following the initial satisfaction of Guy and Steve, Allan Rouse and Mike Heatley then checked each new re-master in yet another location and offered any further suggestions. This continued until all 13 albums were completed to the team's satisfaction.

Burn Burn will be released in the U.S. through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group. Burn Burn will be released in the U.S. through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group.

Burn Burn marks the first studio album from Our Lady Peace since 2005. Self produced by the band and recorded at Raine's home studio in Los Angeles, Burn Burn marks a return to the hard driving rock songs the band displayed on their breakthrough debut release, Naveed. As Raine explains, "We've come full circle and the music is just stripped down, full of raw energy. It feels like a proper rock record again." Fans can catch a glimpse of the studio sessions plus exclusive reveals of artwork, lyrics and more, at the band's website www.ourladypeace.net.

In addition to their six full studio albums, which all surpassed Platinum sales status in Canada, Our Lady Peace released a live CD/DVD in 2003 and a hits collection in 2006, compiling a decade of their chat-topping singles and featuring two new tracks. Throughout their career, the band has sold over five million albums worldwide, won four Juno Awards (Canadian Grammy's), and won ten Much Music Video Awards – one of the most awarded bands in MMVA history. They've shared the stage with Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Faith No More, The Ramones, Goo Goo Dolls, No Doubt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette and Blur among others. Of their live show Billboard Magazine said "OLP proved their readiness as arena-worthy superstars during the opening night of the Canadian act's U.S. tour."

Our Lady Peace will hit the road across North America in support this summer. More details on touring plans to be announced in the coming weeks. The first single "All You Did Was Save My Life" hits Rock radio at the end of May and iTunes on June 9th. Coming off an incredible showing at this year's SXSW including a headlining performance at Stubb's, an over-capacity crowd at DirecTV's "SXSW Live," and a legendary taping of Austin City Limits, BEN HARPER AND RELENTELSS7 proudly announce the release of their debut record, White Lies For Dark Times on May 5 on Virgin Records. The album will be available as CD, deluxe CD with bonus DVD, digital download and 180-gram 2xLP. Rolling Stone calls the new album "an 11-song set soaked with hard rock and Delta Blues." More InformationComing off an incredible showing at this year's SXSW including a headlining performance at Stubb's, an over-capacity crowd at DirecTV's "SXSW Live," and a legendary taping of Austin City Limits, BEN HARPER AND RELENTELSS7 proudly announce the release of their debut record, White Lies For Dark Times on May 5 on Virgin Records. The album will be available as CD, deluxe CD with bonus DVD, digital download and 180-gram 2xLP. Rolling Stone calls the new album "an 11-song set soaked with hard rock and Delta Blues."

Ben Harper and Relentless7's energetic live performance is the heart of the band. In December 2008, the band embarked on a highly successful short club tour with a handful of dates in California and New York. "The band's combined force was almost too big for the room," RollingStone.com said of the band's intimate performance at Spaceland in Los Angeles.

The sweaty, gritty and energetic vibe of the clubs proved to be an incredible match for the band's new hard-hitting sound, and they are pleased to announce their return to the road on a larger club tour of the U.S. as well as dates abroad. "We thought, this is a new band, a new opportunity, a new energy. Let's earn it the way that new bands do...let's play clubs, let's play small places," said drummer Jordan Richardson. Current confirmed tour dates are listed below.

BHR7 will make an early late night television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly on March 27, and will follow with week-of-release performances on The Late Show with David Letterman (5/6), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (5/7) and Jimmy Kimmel Live (5/21).

BHR7 History:
Harper met guitarist Jason Mozersky in the late nineties, when the lead singer of Mozersky's then band, WAN SANTO CONDO was working as a van driver shuttling bands back and forth to the venue for a Texas promoter. He asked the then captive Ben Harper, "Can I play you my demo?" Harper obliged, and in his own words "was blown away," and helped the band secure a record deal and release an album on Everloving Records. The band broke up after one record, but what survived was a lasting friendship between Harper and Mozersky. In 2005, Harper invited now long time friend Mozersky to lay down guitar work on a track during the recording sessions that would become a double record entitled Both Sides of the Gun. Mozersky brought along bass player Jesse Ingalls and drummer Jordan Richardson and the session would spawn not only the song
"Serve Your Soul" but the framework for Relentless7.

To reignite the chemistry discovered during the Both Sides of the Gun session, they reunited in the summer of 2008 just to jam and write songs together, and emerged with a new sound and enough tracks for an album. White Lies For Dark Times is a timeless rock record, with a cohesive collection of music that is as raw, unrelenting and thunderous, as it is arrestingly haunting and emotional.

is very excited to announce the second installment of BONNAROO 365, which will feature streamed footage from Phish's The Clifford Ball DVD box set. Bonnaroo 365 is a program by which fans can enjoy the festival experience year round. The program debuted with the The Raconteurs complete live performance from Bonnaroo 2008.

The second installment will begin on May 11th, 2009 with a full set from Phish's The Clifford Ball DVD box set. Classic footage of the second set of night two from the now legendary "fabled fan favorite" performance will be streamed for free on Bonnaroo's website. The Clifford Ball event holds a great deal of significance for Bonnaroo as it, along with the band's subsequent festivals, were essential sources of inspiration for Bonnaroo's creation. Bonnaroo 2009 will be Phish's only festival performance of the summer.

In addition to the streamed video, four quintessential live Phish songs will be available as free audio downloads as part of Bonnaroo 365 - one will be available to everyone, while the other three can be downloaded by Bonnaroo Community members only (membership sign-up is free). The songs that will be available are:

Piper (7/18/99 - Oswego Country Airport, Volney, NY)
Sand > Quadrophenic Toppling (12/31/99 - Big Cypress Seminole Reservation, FL)

Phish's new 7-DVD The Clifford Ball box set documents the landmark concert event that drew more than 70,000 fans to upstate New York in August 1996. The Clifford Ball was the first of seven, two-day spectacles the band staged, including The Great Went a year later, followed by
Lemonwheel in 1998. The Clifford Ball was held in Plattsburgh, New York, at a decommissioned air force base, where Phish played two marathon concerts and delivered a one-of-a-kind experience for fans.

The box set features nine hours of concert and event footage (with six complete sets of music recorded Live August 16 & 17, 1996 and bonus features including Phish's extended soundcheck, its late-night flatbed truck jam and a 30-minute featurette with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and more. This regionless DVD set includes options for both stereo and 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound Audio (remixed and mastered from the band's multi-track tapes). 4:3 aspect ratio.

Bonnaroo will take place June 11 - 14, 2009 on the same beautiful, 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles southeast of Nashville. This year's performers include Phish (2 sets), Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, David Byrne, Wilco, Al Green, Snoop Dogg and many more. The festival continues to make a strong impact on the American music industry. It has served as a launching pad for such popular artists as Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Robert Randolph, My Morning Jacket, Ray Lamontagne, Matisyahu, and many others. A creative and cultural mega-success, Bonnaroo has also featured a staggeringly diverse range of world-class acts such as Bob Dylan, Metallica, Neil Young, Radiohead, Willie Nelson, The Police, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Tool, Wilco, The Dave Matthews Band, James Brown, The White Stripes, The Dead, Regina Spektor, Widespread Panic, Death Cab For Cutie, Elvis Costello, Amadou and Mariam, Beck, Against Me!, The Black Crowes, Alison Krauss, Bright Eyes, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Earle, Jurassic 5, Modest Mouse, The Mars Volta, Common, Burning Spear, the Flaming Lips, among so many others.
