SUBLIME DELUXE EDITION OUT AUGUST 15 CELEBRATES 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF LANDMARK ALBUM
2-Disc Set Features Original Version of "Doin' Time," Original Unreleased Album Sequence, New and Unreleased Mixes
CAREER-SPANNING ANTHOLOGY BOX SET TO FOLLOW IN NOVEMBER
One of the greatest tragedies of recent musical history was Sublime singer-songwriter-guitarist's Bradley Nowell's untimely death, compounded by the fact that he did not live to witness the massive success of his band's third album, the now classic Sublime. The Long Beach trio's major-label debut, Sublime, was released in 1996, spawned the hits "What I Got," "Wrong Way," "Santeria" and "Doin' Time," and ultimately sold over five million copies in the U.S. alone.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sublime's release and to pay tribute to Nowell's original vision, the two-disc Sublime Deluxe Edition (Geffen/UMe/Gasoline Alley/Skunk) will be released on August 15, 2006. The digitally remastered Deluxe Edition includes, for the first time ever, the original unreleased version of "Doin' Time" with Nowell's original vocal track fully restored, along with 15 bonus tracks, 8 previously unreleased, plus remixes and videos.
Disc One of the Deluxe Edition restores the self-titled Sublime to the original sequence Nowell had intended, opening with a cover of Bob Marley's "Trenchtown Rock," and featuring the original version of "Doin' Time," the band's interpretation of George and Ira Gershwin's American standard "Summertime." Disc Two contains 15 bonus tracks including 8 unreleased tracks including instrumental versions of "Doin' Time," "April 29th, 1992"; "Caress Me Down"; and "What I Got"; an acoustic version of "Zimbabwe"; an alternate take of "What I Got"; and "I Love My Dog" - Nowell's tribute to both his constant Dalmatian companion, Louie, and Bad Brains' "I Luv I Jah," plus videos for "What I Got," "Wrong Way," "Santeria," "Doin' Time" and "What I Got (Reprise)."
The recording of Sublime began in late 1995 at Total Access Recording in Redondo Beach, Calif. Of those self-produced tracks, only "Paddle Out" appeared on the album. The band resumed in January 1996 in Los Angeles with David Kahne, who produced "Doin' Time," "What I Got," "April 29, 1992 (Miami)" and "Caress Me Down," then headed to Austin, Texas to record with Paul Leary, who presided over "Wrong Way," "Santeria," and everything else on the record save for the aforementioned "Paddle Out" and Kahne-produced tracks. Additionally, Kahne and Leary both recorded versions of some of the same songs, which can now be found on the Deluxe Edition.
Finally, a career-spanning multi-disc box set will be released in November, anthologizing the Sublime catalogue and legacy for generations to come.
