TREY ANASTASIO Announces Release of New Solo Album BAR 17 Due Out October 3rd
Release to debut on Anastasio's newly formed label RUBBER JUNGLE
Renowned songwriter and guitarist Trey Anastasio has announced the formation of his own record company entitled Rubber Jungle and that the launch of the label will coincide with the release of his third solo album, BAR 17, on October 3rd, 2006.
On BAR 17, Anastasio mixes his diverse songwriting with the warm and crisp quality of his eclectic guitar playing. The album was recorded at The Barn, the studio of Anastasio's former band Phish, in Burlington Vermont, as well as Trout Studios in Brooklyn, NY. The album features 13 songs with over 40 musicians from all eras of Trey's career including members of Phish, players from various incarnations of Trey's solo band, longtime collaborators John Medeski, percussionist Cyro Baptista and string arranger Don Hart, along with new friends Benevento/Russo Duo, singer Carmen Keegan (I Nine) and Joan Wasser (Dambuilders).
"I felt completely unleashed for the first time while recording," Anastasio said of the process. "This album represents a snapshot of where I am in my life and with mymusic."
The concept of the album began three summers ago when Anastasio, along with producer Bryce Googin, convened at The Barn shortly after Phish's farewell performance. Anastasio started writing and singing alone in the studio for the first time in many years and lead him to reflect on the episodic milestones, both musical and personal, for inspiration. The result is an adventurous album, evident on songs such as the album's title track, which started out as a demo recording on piano, and "Dragonfly," which was recorded near the end of the session with Mike Gordon and Benevento/Russo Duo duo. Anastasio's approach to lyrics on the release allows the rich harmonies of his guitar playing to breathe and in turn thrive.
Following the release of BAR 17, Trey Anastasio will be hitting the road in support
of the album. For more info on the release, Rubber Jungle and tour dates please go
