Raised in Eugene, Oregon, Mat Kearney went to college in California, where he studied English literature. While on spring break, he traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell under the spell of the same muses who'd inspired Southern writers like Flannery O'Connor and William Faulkner and began writing his own emotionally complex songs dealing with themes of emotional tumult, spirituality, and redemption.
Deciding to make Nashville his home base, Mat soon began performing at local songwriter nights alongside artists like Nickel Creek. Infusing his acoustic based singer-songwriter ballads and narratives with a personalized touch, Kearney -- who plays guitar, piano and harmonica -- developed a reputation as a formidable live performer.
Kearney's Nothing To Lose features 13 original tracks produced by Robert Marvin and recorded at Bridge Street, The Smokehouse and Sweetbriar Studios.
Kearney's sound incorporates wide-ranging influences that paint his songs with strength and passion with melodic choruses and acoustic folk/pop. Mat has headlined shows throughout the country and has opened for artists such as The Fray, Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, among others.
