The 11- track album was recorded during the downtime between Idlewild records in South Yorkshire over nine days with friends of his from the Scottish folk community.

Woomble's solo endeavor is an album full of stories about language and communication, about nature and the people that surround us and make our environment. Inspired by the poetry of Robert Frost and George MacKay Brown, as well as by the time Woomble has spent up in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, "My Secret is My Silence" is Woomble at his poetic best.'(It's) about the spaces between words, the language of silence, which is something you see a lot of in Scotland, particularly with the older people up in the highlands and islands. It's about what we don't say, what we leave on the table for other people to pick up. It's about understanding the context of your life, trying to make sense of that while you live it!" says Woomble.

Five of the eleven songs that make up 'My Secret is My Silence' were written with Woomble's Idlewild band mate and co-songwriter, guitarist Rod Jones, two with the album's producer (and BBC radio 2 folk musician of the year 2003) John McCusker, two with childhood friend and singer Michael Angus (in Glasgow's alternative folk band FOXFACE), and one with acclaimed borders based folk singer Karine Polwart. The record features an assortment of musicians including drummer David Gow, bassist Ailidh Lennon (from the Scottish band SONS AND DAUGHTERS and Woomble's wife). As well as appearances from some of folk music's most accomplished players, flautist Michael Mcgoldrick, accordionist Andy Cutting and guitarist Ian Carr and popular folk singers Kate Rusby and Dave Burland.

Born in the west of Scotland and raised all around the UK, France, and America, Woomble began his professional music career at the ripe age of 19 fronting his band Idlewild. The band broke into the UK scene with a brash brand of indie punk, only to evolve and mature into a full-on arena-ready force, landing tours with U2, the Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam and REM. Idlewild have released five critically acclaimed albums, two of which debuted in the UK top ten as well as charting twelve top forty singles.
