SIMON DAWES takes on INCUBUS; Band lands opening slots on national tour
The young indie-rock quartet from Malibu, otherwise known as Simon Dawes, is preparing for a summer tour with Incubus, kicking off July 10 with two nights at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. With three of the four members barely in their 20's, the band is already experiencing mayhem at shows, namely shedding tears, and are more than ready for this life-changing jaunt. They will be main support through Detroit and first of three, alongside the Bravery, for the remaining dates. Often compared to '60s pop-rock pioneers the Kinks, Simon Dawes' musical DNA harks back to an era before the band members were born. Their debut full-length, CARNIVORE, was released last year on Record Collection and demonstrates the sharp songwriting of frontman Taylor Goldsmith and the keen guitar playing of Blake Mills. In addition to this LP, the band has two EPs, WHAT NO ONE HEARS and a five-song, self-titled collection under their barely legal belts, and can now add the SPIDER-MAN 3 soundtrack to its resume. The song "Scared of Myself" can be found on the newly-released hit album alongside tracks by the Killers, Snow Patrol, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Wolfmother.
Having already shared the stage with Maroon 5, Rooney, the Walkmen, Wolfmother and Band of Horses, Simon Dawes knows how to captivate an audience. HARP magazine explains: "when your show and songs are as musically and serially sneaky as Spoon, and as amusing and profound as the Kinks', you're giving anyone who still sees music as the crux of art and communication cause to weep joyfully."
